Wow, I didn't know Pynchon was that modern. He's still alive even. I always assumed based on his stature that he was much older. My favorite (only?) post-modernist is Mark Leyner. Older ones like Tooth Imprints on a Corn Dog and I Smell Esther Williams. I'll have to re-read them to see if they hold up or if they were just the right kind of silly I enjoyed at the time.
